Terms of use
Last updated
These terms cover your use of VimNinja: the website at vimninja.com, its lessons, practice, daily golf and everything else on it (together, "the service"). VimNinja is run by Jai Pandya, sole proprietor of Mutables, in India ("we", "us"). They're written to be read, not skimmed past. How we handle personal data is in the privacy policy.
1. Agreeing to these terms
By using the service you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it. You need to be at least 13 years old (16 in the European Union and the UK) and old enough to make a binding agreement where you live, or have a parent or guardian agree for you.
2. The service
VimNinja teaches Vim in the browser. Part of it is free: the free tracks, the Daily 5, practice with the free drills and daily golf, with or without an account. Pro, a one-time purchase, unlocks the rest. We keep improving the service, so lessons, features and the way they work may change, and we may add, change or retire parts of it.
3. Your account
- An account is optional. Without one, your progress stays in your browser.
- If you create one, give a real email address you can reach, keep your sign-in to yourself, and tell us at support@vimninja.com if you think someone else has used it. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
- An account is for one person.
- You can delete your account at any time from your account page. That deletes its data and any Pro on it, as the privacy policy describes.
4. Licence and acceptable use
The lessons, exercises, puzzles, the Vim engine, the design and the rest of the service belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the service for your own learning, for as long as you follow these terms. Vim itself, and the commands it teaches, belong to everyone.
Please don't:
- copy, resell, republish or redistribute the lessons, exercises or puzzles, or build a competing course from them;
- scrape the service, or use bots, scripts or automated tools against it, beyond what a normal browser does;
- try to get around Pro, rate limits or security measures, probe for vulnerabilities without permission, or disrupt the service for anyone else;
- game the leaderboards: automated or copied solutions don't belong there (remapped keys solve a hole but don't rank);
- use the service to break the law or anyone's rights, or send anything harmful through it.
Found a security problem? Tell us at support@vimninja.com before telling anyone else, and thank you.
5. Purchases, refunds and lifetime Pro
- Who sells it. Pro is sold by our reseller, Lemon Squeezy, which is the merchant of record: it takes the payment, charges and pays the sales tax or VAT, and sends the receipt and invoice. Its own terms and policies apply to the purchase as well as these.
- Price. The price, including any tax, is shown before you pay. Some people see a different price, such as returning users of the old VimNinja during an offer. We may change prices; that never affects a purchase you've already made.
- One payment, no subscription. Pro is charged once. There's nothing to renew or cancel.
- What "lifetime" means. Pro unlocks every track and every exercise, including lessons added later, for as long as we run VimNinja. It's tied to the account you bought it with and can't be transferred. Pro bought on the old VimNinja carries over to the account it was bought with.
- Refunds. Refunds go through Lemon Squeezy: use the link in your receipt, or write to support@vimninja.com and we'll sort it out with them. A refunded purchase removes Pro from the account. Nothing here limits any right to a refund or remedy you have under the law where you live.
6. Your content and the leaderboards
Some things you add are yours: the leaderboard name and GitHub username you choose, your golf solutions and the feedback you send. You keep any rights you have in them, and you give us permission to store and show them as the service needs: your name, score and time on the golf leaderboards, and your solutions to players who have solved the same hole. Feedback we may use to improve VimNinja, without owing you anything for it.
Names must not impersonate anyone or be offensive. We may reset a name, or remove scores and solutions that break these terms, such as automated ones. You can leave the leaderboards at any time from your account page.
7. Ending things
You can stop using VimNinja and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or when the law requires it; where it's reasonable, we'll tell you why first and give you a chance to fix it. If we ever shut VimNinja down, we'll say so here and by email in advance. The sections on licence, your content, disclaimers, liability and governing law keep applying after an account ends.
8. Disclaimers
We work hard to keep VimNinja correct and available, and the engine is checked against Neovim, but the service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises beyond those in these terms: we don't guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or exactly like every Vim, Neovim or editor plugin, or that a lesson will suit your purpose. What you then type into your own editor is up to you (practise :q! here, not on unsaved work).
9. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from the service. Our total liability for any claim about the service is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your rights as a consumer.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service changes. We'll post the new version here with its date, and tell you by email or on the site before a significant change takes effect. If you keep using the service after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can stop using it and delete your account.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and disputes go to the courts of India. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in and can bring a claim there. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
