The browser extension for vimninja.com
Keep every Vim command you learn.
You learn Vim on vimninja.com. The extension sits in your toolbar and keeps it going between lessons: it counts the commands about to slip, gives you a two-minute review, today’s golf hole, and one reminder a day if you want it.
Free, no account, and it works offline.

The course, and the habit that keeps it.
Everything starts on vimninja.com. The extension carries the daily part with you, so a command you learned on Monday is still there on Friday.

They don’t share progress yet: the extension keeps its own, on your computer, and opens vimninja.com whenever you want the full lesson.
A day with it
- A nudge One notification, at the time you picked. None once today’s review is done.
- Two minutes of review Each command comes back just before you’d forget it, and leaves for longer each time you get it right.
- A golf hole at lunch Edit the text into the target in as few keys as you can. Par is the shortest known way.
- Back to the course When there’s time for a whole lesson, the extension opens it on vimninja.com. Next on vimninja.com Six ways into Insert mode
Nothing leaves your computer.
No account, no tracking, no network requests. It never runs on the pages you visit and can’t see your tabs. This is everything it asks the browser for:
Read the privacy policy// manifest.json: every permission it asks for
"permissions": [
"storage", // your progress and reminders, kept here
"alarms", // your reminder, and the badge count
"idle" // noticing you are back, for that reminder
],
"optional_permissions": [
"notifications" // asked for only when you pick a reminder
]
// no host_permissions, no content_scripts Questions

Do I need vimninja.com to use it?
No. It works on its own, offline, with no account. It’s made as the companion to the course, though: the full lessons, with every exercise and boss round, are on vimninja.com, and the extension links you there.
Does it share progress with my vimninja.com account?
Not yet. The extension keeps its own progress on your computer and sends nothing anywhere. Your account on vimninja.com keeps the site’s progress in sync across your devices.
Is it free?
Yes, all of it. Pro is a vimninja.com thing: it unlocks every exercise in all 82 chapters of the full course.
Will it slow down my browser?
No. It never runs on the pages you visit: it has no content scripts and no access to your tabs. It wakes up only for your reminder and to refresh its badge.
Which browsers does it work in?
Microsoft Edge, from Edge Add-ons, today. The Chrome version is in review at the Chrome Web Store. Firefox is on the way.
